Info
Caro lives and works in South East London where she was born in 1984. She first started working with ceramics whilst studying graphic design at Camberwell College of Arts and has returned to the medium after several years of working in illustration and design.
An exploration between the organic and the manmade is a recurring theme throughout Caro’s work. Inspired by the natural world and the way it feeds into cultures, the focus of much of her research is on the ways in which humanity has celebrated nature – across history, cultures and through storytelling. A fascination with the history and evolution of technique, crafts and functional design is reflected in Caro's methods.
She uses slip casting to create most pieces but occasionally hand builds unique items when required. Once the form is cast all pieces are hand carved or finished so that they have an imperfect feel, and no two are the same. The inconsistent nature of ceramics as a medium is attractive to Caro and she enjoys how a small change in technique can create satisfying and unexpected differences, which in a world of uniformity, gives a uniqueness she is strongly drawn to.
